COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

Our daily Covid-19 updates can be found below, with the most recent update at the top.

We will ensure that a daily communication is posted on each academy website before 8:00pm each evening.

End of Term Letter

Firstly, we want to start by thanking all parents and carers for the support you have offered the Academy during these difficult times, when you yourselves are undoubtedly trying to balance working from home; being a parent and trying to support your child’s education. Your continued messages of support have been greatly appreciated by both teachers and leaders in the Academy. And as time moves on, we will continue to do our very best to support you and your children to work and learn from home…

Ofqual Update on Examinations – Awarding of GCSE and A Level Grades

I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and well at what continues to be a very challenging time. As you
may be aware Ofqual and the Department for Education have released further information today in relation to how
GCSEs and A Level grades will be awarded in the summer.

Outlined later in this communication is the information we have received to date, set out in a ‘question and answer’
format. I hope this format best supports your understanding of the process that will now take place both in the
Academy and at a national level. I also hope what is set out below provides you with some greater clarity and acts to
allay any fears or concerns you have with the awarding of qualifications this summer. As we receive any further updates
from Ofqual, exam boards or the Department for Education, we will continue to keep you informed and updated.

The guidance itself can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/gcses-as-and-a-level-awarding-summer-2020

Once again thank you for your on-going support during these uncertain times. Please rest assured that we will continue
to do our very best to ensure that your children are not placed at a disadvantage as a result of the challenging situation
that we find ourselves currently facing.

Whilst the academy is closed, we will seek to maintain our focus on the continued education of our pupils through the provision of work. Pupils can access a range of online learning platforms, along with a ‘Study at Home’ booklet, offering additional support via Student – Website Links. We have also published some links specifically for parents which can be accessed via Parent – Website Links

As part of a wider Trust Policy on remote working arrangements, teaching staff will be in a position to update and refresh work on a weekly basis. Colleagues will do all that they can to maintain this provision throughout the period of closure, however we would ask all parents / carers to be mindful of the following:

  • Online / home learning places an emphasis on all pupils to establish a routine of working from home, our teaching colleagues will not be in a position to follow up on all work that has been set.
  • The Academy will seek to provide ongoing advice and support to pupils and parents about online / home learning using the communication channels.
  • Where work can’t be submitted online, pupils are encouraged to record the completion of all of the work set in an exercise book that the Academy has provided where required, and / or by any other means. At the time of returning to the Academy this work can then be handed in and reviewed.
  • Unfortunately, our staff team may at times be in a position where they are unavailable for work. This would be in keeping with all other working adults at this present time, with increasing numbers of staff unavailable for work across the country.
  • When there are occasions where work cannot be provided across all subjects / year groups on a weekly basis due to the availability of staff, we would seek to communicate this to parents / carers and ask for your understanding in this respect.

The provision of work for pupils will be begin fully from Monday 23 March.

Latest Covid-19 Update to Parents

Following the recent government guidance following the press conference this evening, I can confirm that whilst the Academy remains open for most students, we will need to implement a partial closure for one year group due to the availability of teaching staff. Given current guidance a proportion of teaching staff are affected and fall within the categories for self-isolation.

On Tuesday 17th March 2020, year 10 pupils should not attend the academy unless parental supervision represents an issue for families. Where this is the case, I would kindly request that pupils report to Kendall hall to be registered.

Whilst I appreciate that this decision may present an inconvenience for some families, I am unable to provide sufficient staffing levels to support full supervision of pupils across all year groups. I will continue to update parents across the course of the week as to any further partial closures that may be required.

Year 12 students should continue to attend the Academy, but should be advised that formal lessons may not take place and in this instance students will be asked to undertake independent personal study in the ILC.

All other pupils and students should continue to attend the Academy as normal and report to their form as normal at 8.30am.

Finally, can I kindly request that parents do not attempt to contact the academy for further updates or to request medical advice at this time,

Mrs S Broome

We are aware of the news from the Government relating to Covid-19 released at 5pm this evening. We will remain open on Friday 13 March 2020 for pupils and staff, and will send a communication update to all parents / carers at the earliest opportunity on Friday 13 March 2020 explaining the Academy’s position in relation to the most recent directive from the Government. Please may we ask that you await this communication before contacting the Academy with any enquiries. Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
